Modern Automotive Advanced Technology Research Center - Joint Lab Opens, Focusing on Innovation in Smart Cockpit Development.

2025-03-11

This collaboration focuses on Hyundai Motor Group’s next-generation intelligent cockpit platform and its diversified applications within China’s electric vehicle sector. By leveraging shared resources, it aims to strengthen Hyundai’s competitive edge in both China’s electric car market and global automotive industries, accelerating the implementation of its SDV (Software-Defined Vehicle) strategy. Furthermore, the partnership will deepen industry-academia-research integration, combining industrial expertise, university innovation, and cutting-edge R&D. Through service-oriented alliances, the three parties will synchronize market insights, optimize supply chain synergies, and drive rapid technological iteration — specifically targeting the commercialization of intelligent cockpit systems for China’s electric cars.

Yang Feng, General Manager of Hyundai's Advanced Technology Research Center, stated, "The establishment of the Joint Lab marks a significant step forward in our intelligent cockpit software development. We will focus on local market demands, deepen cooperation with industry partners, and promote the localization of intelligent cockpit technologies. Currently, we are concentrating on the R&D of core technologies such as large models, intelligent voice interaction, entertainment ecosystems, and navigation. In the future, we will continue to optimize user experiences and enhance our competitiveness in the field of intelligent connectivity."

Hyundai Motor established and operates its largest overseas research institute, Hyundai Motor R&D Center (China), in Yantai, Shandong Province, in 2013, and set up the Hyundai Advanced Technology Research Center in Shanghai in 2021. This collaboration will also accelerate Hyundai's intelligent transformation in the Chinese and global markets.

The Hyundai Advanced Technology Research Center is the group's first overseas advanced technology research hub, focusing on intelligent cockpits, autonomous driving, and vehicle control. It has established a complete localized advanced R&D system. The Hyundai Motor R&D Center (China), officially operational in 2014, covers an area of 1.84 million square meters and includes a 1.51 million square meter test track. It fully supports the entire vehicle development process, from product planning, design, prototyping, testing, to regulatory certification, for both new energy and traditional fuel vehicles, providing comprehensive technical support for the Joint Lab. Through the Joint Lab, Hyundai will further accelerate its advanced technology R&D in China and efficiently promote the implementation of its intelligent transformation strategy.

Thundersoft, as a global leader in intelligent operating systems and edge-side intelligent products and technologies, has been continuously accumulating and innovating technologies centered on operating systems since its establishment in 2008. Its business has expanded from smart terminals to intelligent vehicles, the Internet of Things, and other fields. It successfully went public in 2015, becoming China's first listed intelligent operating system technology company. In this collaboration, Thundersoft will provide strong technical support to the Joint Lab, assisting Hyundai in achieving technological breakthroughs in the intelligent cockpit field.

This strategic partnership marks the official launch of deep cooperation between Hyundai Motor Group and Thundersoft in the field of intelligent vehicles. Leveraging the Joint Lab, the three parties will jointly tackle and implement advanced technologies, bridge the gap from technology R&D to product application, and provide comprehensive, systematic, and reliable solutions in areas such as intelligent cockpit software development. In the future, Hyundai Motor Group will continue to deepen its strategic layout in the Chinese market, collaborate with partners, jointly promote the development and application of intelligent vehicle technologies, and create a new era of intelligent vehicles.
