Lexus Unveils Official Images of the New RZ Featuring a Redesigned Steering Wheel and Steer-by-Wire System

2025-03-12

Recently, Lexus unveiled a set of official images of the new RZ model. Positioned as a pure electric mid-size SUV, this mid-cycle update introduces several significant upgrades, including the first-time integration of a steer-by-wire system and a new battery pack, which enhances the vehicle's driving range. Additionally, the new model features a simulated gear-shifting system, allowing drivers to mimic an eight-speed manual transmission using paddle shifters.

In terms of exterior design, the new RZ largely follows the current model's styling. The pictured 550e F SPORT version sports a new Neutrino Gray/Black two-tone paint scheme, with a blackened front grille and sharp headlight clusters that give the front end a fierce appearance.

The side profile of the vehicle continues with a large sloping roofline design, complemented by a blackened roof and wheels, enhancing the car's sporty and low-slung stance. At the rear, the car retains the full-width taillight design, with blackened spoiler and rear bumper elements adding to the sporty aesthetic.

Inside, the new RZ features a redesigned steering wheel that resembles an aircraft's control stick, paired with the latest steer-by-wire system. The door panels now include laser ambient lighting, which, along with a multi-color ambient lighting system, enhances the technological feel of the cabin. Other features include an adjustable panoramic sunroof and a streaming rearview mirror.

Under the hood, the new RZ is equipped with a new 77kWh battery pack. The RZ 550e F SPORT model boasts a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with a maximum power output of 300 kW, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and offering a range of 450 km. For overseas markets, the RZ 500e variant is available, featuring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with a maximum power of 280 kW and a range of 500 km. The entry-level RZ 350e is equipped with a front-mounted single motor delivering 165 kW of power and a range of 575 km.
